Fibromyalgia: Association with Decreased Grey Matter in the Brain

Today we will be discussing fibromyalgia and its associations with alterations in grey matter density in the brain.  We will discuss the scientific literature on this topic highlighting how some areas of the brain will have increased grey matter while other areas have decreased grey matter, leading researchers to speculate that this is either a cause or effect of the disorder.  We will present this information with our clinical experience as well as highlighting other phenomena documented in the fibromyalgia patient population that may be contributing to these findings.
